Advising Student OrganizationsMulticultural Services and Programs is committed to helping the community at the University of Georgia in creating an inclusive environment and improving the retention of all students, particularly those who identify as members of underrepresented populations. With the support of students, alumni, faculty, staff, and friends we offer opportunities to develop an appreciation and respect for cultural similarities and differences by promoting student leadership, academic achievement, and celebrating the contributions and heritage of UGA’s diverse population. MSP provides advice to student organizations on matters involving program development, marketing, budgeting, and conducting training/leadership programs throughout the year. In addition, the staff assists student leaders in designing strategies for success in developing, implementing, and evaluating programs focused on increasing awareness and appreciation of Multiculturalism.
The following student organizations are housed within the office of Multicultural Services and Programs:Black Affairs Council – BAC (Est. 1973)Mission: The Black Affairs Council (BAC) of the University of Georgia serves to assist the University in meeting the needs of the Black student body. BAC works to preserve, enhance, examine, and celebrate Black culture at the University of Georgia. To these aims the Black Affairs Council shall encourage cultural diversity, articulate the concerns of Black students, and cultivate relationships with other student organizations and the Athens-Clarke County community. InfUSion Magazine (Est. 1989)Mission: is dedicated to providing a magazine that highlights the experiences of the University of Georgia’s multicultural student body. Hispanic Student Association – HSA (Est. 1991)Mission: The Hispanic Student Association (HSA) of the University of Georgia serves to assist the University in meeting the needs of the Hispanic and Latino student body. HSA works to preserve and promote the richness and diversity of the Hispanic / Latino-American culture. To these aims the HSA shall encourage cultural diversity, articulate the concerns of Hispanic and Latino students, and cultivate relationships with other student organizations and the Athens-Clarke County community. Indian Cultural Exchange – ICE (Est. 1992)Asian American Student Association – AASA (Est. 2003)Mission: The Asian American Student Association (AASA) of the University of Georgia serves to assist the University in meeting the needs of the Asian American student body. AASA works to promote and provide a cultural and political awareness of Asian American customs and diversity. To these aims the AASA shall be to encourage cultural diversity, articulate the concerns of Asian students, and cultivate relationships with other student organizations and the Athens-Clarke County community. Latinos Investing in the Students of Tomorrow – LISTo (Est. 2006)Mission: creates a support system for first-year Hispanic / Latino students transitioning into the University of Georgia community. LISTo is dedicated to providing academic, social, and personal guidance through peer mentoring. Sustained Dialogue – SD (Est. 2009)Mission: creates a safe environment in which students can discuss racial, religious, cultural, and social issues as they pertain to that individual student as well as to the campus community. Sustained Dialogue is facilitated by students, for students, and about student relationships. |
