Chow and Chat

Chow and Chat is a monthly lunch-discussion that intends to encourage dialogue among the UGA community about significant issues affecting students, staff, and faculty of UGA, with an emphasis on issues impacting people of color. This program is open to the whole UGA community, and we invite anyone who wishes to have a dialogue on the monthly discussion topics to attend. We hope this program will allow participants to also make meaning of the significant issues discussed, promote intercultural competence and create the capacity for participants to have meaningful dialogues in their lives.

Third Thursdays: 12 - 1:15 PM

Lunch will be provided on a first come first serve basis. Dialogue begins at 12:15pm

Prism

Prism is a discussion group for students who identify as LGBTQA – lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, asexual - and a person of color. Prism was developed by the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender Resource Center and the office of Multicultural Services and Programs to recognize and address the intersection of race (and ethnicity) and sexual orientation. This group provides LGBTQA students of color the opportunity to explore what it means to hold these particular identities. Additionally, it fosters an informal and safe setting in which students can share experiences, discuss issues, and build community.

Every Other Tuesday: 6 - 7:30 PM

Food and drinks provided.

Raise Your Voice! Open Mic

Self-expression, through storytelling, poetry, music, etc. is incredibly liberating. Raise Your Voice will give students, staff, faculty, the opportunity to come together, share their art, and speak their truth in a welcoming environment. “Raise your voice” is a directive, an invitation, to be bold, to be daring!

Second Wednesdays: 7 - 9 PM

the Soapbox: A Social Justice Speaker Series

The Soapbox is a monthly social justice speaker series that provides community for faculty, staff and graduate students to share their research related to social justice, diversity, inclusion, multiculturalism, identity and intersectionality with the UGA campus community.

First Thursdays: 12 - 1:15 PM
